POSITION SUMMARY

The role involves design and development of innovative defibrillator technology and support systems with an opportunity to apply design, creativity, and professional and technical expertise to save lives.

This is an R&D post which involves support and development of existing and new products.

The individual will be expected to identify self-development requirements, mentor more junior staff members and be able to organize their tasks according to the demands of the business.

What you will do

Technical Responsibilities

  • Independently design and develop electrical components and sub-systems for medical devices.
  • Develop and apply advanced circuit and electrical system test methods.
  • Conduct or design advanced prototyping and testing.
  • Conduct advanced problem solving, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against requirements using independent judgement.
  • Conduct research and design studies to support development of solutions.
  • Translate user needs to design inputs/specifications and produce designs to satisfy those inputs.
  • Analyze and correct complex product design issues, using independent judgment.
  • Independently balance design tradeoffs while designing a component of the system.
  • Generate and execute plans and protocols to verify solutions against their requirements.
  • Assist with the design transfer and product verification and validation activities.

Business Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions by applying in-depth knowledge of user needs and system objectives.
  • Develop and apply detailed knowledge of clinical and regulatory procedures to author design inputs.
  • Support Voice of Customer sessions internally and externally as required.
  • Demonstrate developing financial acumen.

Med Device Compliance

  • Be proficient with and mentor others in usage of industry standards, including design requirements and test strategies per applicable guidelines, regulations, or procedures.
  • Lead creation and refinement of engineering documentation, e. g., work instructions, schematics, BOMs, design descriptions, etc. per company design control procedures.
  • Follow and mentor others on R&D procedures per the Quality Management System.

General Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with all departments and colleagues, both on and offsite, to ensure project success as a leader on the team.
  • Comply with training requirements.
  • Identify and support continuous improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology.
  • Support and execute segments of complex product development to advance projects through the design /development/launch process.
  • Deliver high quality results with passion, energy and drive to meet business priorities.
  • Build relationships and influence across the business.
  • Maintain awareness of Company Health and Safety Policy and Fire Evacuation Procedure and take all reasonable precautions against personal harm and/or injury.

What you will need

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics Engineering
  • 8 years experience in a relevant industry

Technical Skills

  • Advanced understanding of electrical components, manufacturing methods, and common failure modes.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and evaluate electrical designs.
  • Working knowledge of the electrical design process.
  • Knowledge of standard technologies used in industry.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze system drawings with basic Mechanical/Software/Electrical interactions.
  • Proficient in documentation and data analysis with sound understanding of quality management and change control.

Preferred Skills / Engineering tools

  • Proficient in an industry-leading schematic capture/PCB layout tool.
  • Proficient in the use of circuit analysis tools.
  • Understands the theory of test automation, e. g., interfacing electronic instruments or equipment to computer systems.
  • Proficient in the use of software/electrical interface tools.
  • Exposure to an object orientated programming language, e. g., C, C++, or C#.
  • Understands the advanced theory and methods of analogue and digital design and can apply them independently to complex problems.
  • Understand various op-amp configurations.
  • Understands filtering techniques, gain and attenuation circuits.
  • Understands signal conversion, analog to digital and digital to analog.
  • Understands component selection criteria including tradeoffs between cost, function, availability, and environmental concerns.
  • Understands different component parameters and their technical significance.
  • Knowledge of alternative component specification techniques.
  • Proficiency in documentation and data analysis with sound understanding of change control process.
  • Knowledge of sub-systems, systems, and environmental interactions and how to design for them.

Office / laboratory environment, significant computer usage, extended hours as needed (37.5 nominal), occasional travel.
