Powertech Labs, a global leader in clean energy solutions and a subsidiary of BC Hydro, is seeking a Project Engineer to join our Hydrogen Infrastructure team. We design and build advanced hydrogen refueling stations, compressed hydrogen systems, and energy transition technologies. We are industry leaders in designing, building, and operating advanced compressed hydrogen refueling solutions, including stations, lightweight tube trailers, and certification equipment. Our team pioneered turnkey containerized fueling stations, introducing the world’s first 700‑bar fast‑fill station and the first capable of fueling four vehicles simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning: Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables; develop and maintain schedules and resource plans.
- Technical Support: Provide engineering expertise throughout design, procurement, and construction; review drawings and specifications; support testing in compliance with international standards and client requirements.
- Execution & Monitoring: Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, contractors, and vendors; track progress, manage risks, and implement corrective actions.
- Quality & Safety: Ensure adherence to safety regulations and quality standards; conduct inspections and audits.
- Reporting: Prepare status updates, cost tracking, and documentation for stakeholders.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams to define integration requirements.
- Interpret Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation throughout testing phases and ensure compliance with quality requirements.
- Apply engineering principles to testing, analysis, and problem resolution.
- Review team outputs for accuracy and compliance with engineering standards.
- Provide technical guidance to technicians and electricians during construction and testing.
- Support testing, commissioning, and remote troubleshooting of hydrogen infrastructure systems.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Chemical/Process Engineering (or related discipline) from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in hydrogen, oil & gas, or related industries.
- Proven experience with HAZOP studies or other risk assessments.
- Strong ability to work independently and solve complex technical challenges.
- Hands‑on experience with high‑pressure hydrogen equipment (>10,000 psi) in gas applications is an asset.
- Familiarity with data acquisition, instrumentation, and control systems is an asset.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks is an asset.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for immediate registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- Valid BC driver’s license and ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
