Lead the Future of Renewable Energy Projects

This position requires regular travel across the UK, including frequent overnight stays.
What You’ll Do
As a Substation Commissioning Engineer, you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality testing and commissioning activity across renewable energy and power infrastructure projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out electrical testing and commissioning work safely and in line with company SHEQ procedures and project requirements.
- Testing and commissioning outdoor substation equipment on site, including pre-energisation and post-energisation activities for switchgear, protection relays and auxiliary systems.
- Completing protection, control and interface testing, including SCADA, Modbus and IEC 61850-related activities using equipment such as Omicron and Test Universe.
- Providing technical support throughout the commissioning stage, working closely with project engineers, design teams, clients, DNOs and subcontractors.
- Promoting Powersystems’ Priority No.1 approach to health, safety and wellbeing, while maintaining high standards of professionalism and continuous improvement.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Strong practical experience in power sector testing and commissioning, including primary and secondary injection, switchgear, protection relays and cable testing.
- Confidence working with common relay and commissioning systems, including Micom, Sepam, Siemens, ABB, Omicron, Test Universe and IEC 61850.
- Proven experience testing, commissioning and fault-finding protection, control interface and SCADA systems.
- The ability to produce accurate commissioning documentation, test records and as-built drawings, with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with clients, DNOs, manufacturers, subcontractors and colleagues.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The right to work in the UK.
