Day to day, you will:
- Record incoming payments and allocate them accurately against customer accounts, keeping balances correct and reconciled.
- Monitor the aged debtors report and take ownership of following up overdue balances.
- Contact customers by phone and email to chase outstanding payments professionally and promptly, building good working relationships with the people you're chasing.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies and queries on accounts receivable, liaising with customers and our internal sales team to resolve billing disputes and missing payments.
- Raise and issue invoices and credit notes with the appropriate approvals.
- Upload invoices to customer portals where required and monitor them through to payment.
- Maintain the sales ledger so customer accounts are accurate, complete and up to date.
- Support month-end processes and provide administrative support to the wider finance department as needed.
About you:
You will have previous experience in a sales ledger or credit control role, ideally in a similar B2B environment where customers trade on account. You should be accurate with numbers, organised under pressure, and comfortable picking up the phone to chase a payment without souring the relationship. Good Excel skills and experience with accounting software are important; experience with customer invoicing portals is a plus. Most of all, you take pride in a clean ledger and a healthy debtor book, and you're happy working as part of a small, busy team.
