At Power2, we believe that every person deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of the challenges they have faced. We're launching an exciting new programme supporting women aged 18-25 who are involved with, or at risk of further involvement with, the criminal justice system. Through intensive mentoring, practical support and trusted relationships, we'll help women overcome barriers, build confidence and access opportunities that support lasting positive change.
About Power2
Power2 is an evidence-based charity that supports children, young people and young adults to overcome challenges, improve wellbeing and achieve positive outcomes. We do this through high-quality mentoring, coaching and support programmes that build confidence, resilience and self-belief. Relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We work alongside people to help them identify their strengths, navigate challenges and achieve goals that matter to them.
About the role
As a Programme Lead, you'll provide intensive one-to-one mentoring and navigation support to women aged 18-25 who may be facing multiple challenges, including involvement with the criminal justice system, poor mental health, housing instability, financial hardship, substance misuse, family difficulties or social isolation. This is a highly relational role. You'll build trusted relationships with women, help them identify and achieve their goals, advocate on their behalf where appropriate, and support them to access the services and opportunities they need to move forward. This is not a desk-based role. You'll spend much of your time working directly with participants in community settings across Greater Manchester and, where required, within prison environments. You'll work closely with a range of partners, including prisons, custody suites, probation services, criminal justice agencies, local authorities, health services and voluntary sector organisations to ensure women receive coordinated and effective support. As our participants' needs do not always fit within traditional office hours, the role includes regular evening working and occasional weekend working. We operate flexibly and provide appropriate time off in lieu arrangements.
We're looking for someone who:
- Can build trusting, professional relationships with people facing complex challenges.
- Is compassionate, resilient and non-judgemental.
- Has experience supporting vulnerable adults, young adults or people with complex needs.
- Understands the importance of trauma-responsive and strengths-based approaches.
- Can manage risk, maintain professional boundaries and work calmly in challenging situations.
- Is comfortable working in a variety of settings, including community venues and prison environments.
- Is confident working with a range of professionals and partner organisations.
- Can manage a varied caseload and maintain accurate records.
- Is able to work independently whilst contributing positively to a supportive team.
- Is willing and able to work regular evenings and occasional weekends.
- Holds a full UK driving licence and has access to a vehicle for work-related travel across Greater Manchester.
- Shares our commitment to equality, inclusion and empowering people to achieve positive change.
Experience we'd particularly value
We're interested in skills and potential as much as specific job titles. You may have worked in criminal justice, probation, prisons, housing, domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health, youth justice, community support or other services supporting people facing complex challenges. Experience of mentoring, key working, case management and multi-agency working would be beneficial. We also welcome applications from women whose lived experience helps them understand the barriers and challenges faced by the women we support.
Things to know before applying
This role is incredibly rewarding, but it can also be challenging. You'll support women who may have experienced significant trauma and adversity, often while navigating complex circumstances. The role involves:
- Regular travel across Greater Manchester.
- Working in community and prison settings.
- Regular evening work and occasional weekend work.
- Managing complex situations and maintaining professional boundaries.
- Working closely with criminal justice, statutory and voluntary sector partners.
Due to the nature of the service and the needs of the women we support, this post is open to women only. This is a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.
How to apply
Your expression of interest should be no longer than two pages of A4 and must cover:
- Where you are based
- How your skills and experience match the person specification
- What makes you the right person for the role.
Your CV and personal statement are submitted on the second page of the application process. Applications without a personal statement will not be considered. The successful applicants will be required to undergo and secure an enhanced DBS check (child workforce) and provide details of two referees.
Diversity, Equality and Inclusion
Power2 is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and able to thrive. We particularly welcome applications from women with lived experience and from under-represented communities.
Safeguarding
Power2 is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. Successful applicants will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and other appropriate pre-employment checks.
