Following the acquisition of Wood’s UK Transmission & Distribution business, United Infrastructure has strengthened its capabilities in power engineering, construction and asset optimisation, supporting grid resilience and the transition to a low-carbon energy system. Driven by significant growth, United Infrastructure are seeking a Fleet Controller for their Power Transmission & Distribution business. This role will be based at our offices in Darlington, County Durham.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Efficiency: Monitoring and tracking vehicle locations and conditions using fleet management software.
- Accident & Risk Management: Handle insurance claims, manage accident reports, and promote safe driving practices.
- Cost Control: Monitor and approve repair costs.
- Communication: Serve as the main contact point for drivers and service providers.
- Insurance: Ensuring that all road going vehicles and plant are recorded onto the Motor Insurance Database in a timely manner.
- Finance: Produce month end charging spreadsheet for all vehicles and insurance.
- Vehicle Sourcing: Point of contact for the supply of vehicles to the projects, liaising with Suppliers to ensure correct vehicle is delivered in a timely manner.
- Licence Checking: Administrating licence checks for the business.
- HR: Process car applications and source vehicle for new starts.
- Lease Provider: Liaise with the supplier to procure and process orders for short and long-term lease vehicles.
- Tax: Prepare P11d information for vehicles and send to Group Tax monthly.
- Fuel Cards: Administer Fuel Cards for all Projects.
- Damages: Check and approve/dispute recharge notifications (tyres, punctures etc.) and cc relevant Projects so they can accrue costs.
Qualifications Required Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: Previous experience in fleet management, transport coordination, or vehicle maintenance is highly desirable.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of vehicle maintenance and in some cases, HGV/LCV regulations.
- Systems Proficiency: Confident IT skills, ideally including experience with fleet management software.
- Communication & Organization: Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy for record-keeping and compliance documentation.
- Problem-solving: Quickly addressing and resolving logistical issues.
- Logistics: Integral part of supply chain management.
- Cost Management: Reducing operational costs through optimized fleet management.

- Ensuring that all company stakeholders are always kept well informed.
- Contact Projects for driver details to enable completion of any Notices of Intended Prosecution from various Police departments for Speeding/Contravene Red Traffic Light etc.
- Ensure payment and recharge of any Car Parking/Bus Lane/Congestion Charges.
- Check weekly hire reports from hire companies match our Fleet systems and resolve any discrepancies.
- Check Hire Company off hire reports, make sure dates match our records.
