The Depot Foreman is responsible for leading and managing the Engineering department at the South East Depot, comprising Generator PDI Engineers, Electrical PDI Engineers, Workshop Engineers, and Labourers. This role oversees departmental performance and operational efficiency, ensures full compliance with Health and Safety regulations, and upholds the highest standards of quality for all equipment prepared and delivered to customers.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all equipment adheres to relevant safety and compliant standards and company policies.
- Enforce compliance with health and safety standards, ensuring all staff adhere to Power Electrics' safety protocols and company policies, and promoting a culture of proactive risk management and safe working practices.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient work environment in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership & Management:
- Lead and oversee the activities of Depot-based Generator PDI Engineers, Workshop Engineers, Electrical PDI Engineers, and Labourers.
- Provide ongoing supervision, guidance, and support to ensure optimal team performance.
- Ensure team objectives align with overall company goals and operational priorities.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, identifying development opportunities and delivering targeted training to enhance technical and professional skills.
- Promote a positive work environment focused on safety, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Actively foster team motivation, engagement, and a high-performance culture.
Operations Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the Engineering department, including Generator PDI process, stock control and logistics.
- Attend customer site surveys, customer site installations and breakdowns as required / directed by the South East Depot Manager.
- Provide out of hours call out support (as part of the depot's call out rota system).
Equipment Maintenance:
- Ensure all generators and related equipment are maintained in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards, coordinating diagnostics, servicing, and corrective repairs to ensure operational readiness and hire availability.
Inventory Control:
- Monitor the availability of generators, cables, and associated assets to ensure optimal stock levels are maintained at the depot.
- Oversee stock replenishment processes and maintain accurate inventory records using the company's InspHire database system.
- Ensure sufficient volume of PDI-completed equipment is readily available to support emergency and short-notice requirements.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a similar role within the equipment hire or power generation industry.
- Engineering background in plant and diesel engine maintenance (detailed knowledge of generators preferred).
- Excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills.
- Experience in leading a team of engineers.
- Strong understanding of compliance, safety and regulatory standards in an engineering background.
- Full UK driving Licence.
