Are you a mechanically trained person looking to hang up the overalls but keep using your technical brain? As the South West’s largest generator specialist, we know that the best repair quotes don't come from salespeople—they come from people who actually understand how the machines work. This role is designed for a technical problem-solver who wants to transition into a professional office environment. You will be the bridge between our field engineers and our customers, translating site reports into accurate, professional repair solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Interpretation: Review field engineer service reports to understand the "why" and "how" of a breakdown. You’ll know exactly what the engineer is describing because you’ve likely been there yourself.
- Precision Quoting: Build comprehensive repair quotes by determining the labor time and technical requirements needed for a successful fix.
- Strategic Sourcing: Identify the correct components for repairs and negotiate with suppliers to ensure we are getting the right parts at the right price.
- Project Liaison: Act as the technical heartbeat of the office—liaising with the Parts Department and Service Planners to ensure that when an engineer hits the site, they have everything they need to get the job done right the first time.
- Workflow Management: Process and log orders for breakdown work, ensuring the customer is kept in the loop and the service department is moving efficiently.
Skills & Experience
- Mechanical DNA: You have a solid understanding of mechanical equipment (specifically generators/engines). You can read a technical drawing or a site report and visualize the repair.
- The "Translator": You can explain technical issues to a customer in a way they understand, and explain customer needs to an engineer in a way they respect.
- Organized & Tech-Savvy: While you’re comfortable with a wrench, you’re also proficient with IT systems and can manage multiple quotes and deadlines without breaking a sweat.
- Commercial Awareness: You understand that time is money. You’re focused on finding the most efficient and cost-effective ways to get our customers back up and running.
- Team Player: You know the value of a good relationship between the depot and the field. You’re ready to support your former peers by being their strongest advocate in the office.
Why This Role?
- Career Longevity: Transition into a role that values your technical knowledge without the physical toll of field work.
- Professional Growth: Gain experience in the commercial, financial, and logistical side of the power generation industry.
- Impact: Play a critical role in the growth of the South West’s leading generator specialist.
