The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

This role will report to the Lead Engineer (Systems) for designated activities involving system design, development, commissioning, and technical support. This will include liaison with clients, manufacturers, internal production, and engineering teams where necessary.

The scope of the role will include but not be limited to:

  • Interpreting the client specifications to develop project Functional Design and drawings in accordance with both the project documentation requirements and Powell standard procedures, in a logical sequence to meet the timescales of the allocated projects.
  • To develop projects in accordance with the requirements of the project specification as defined and thus meeting the requirements of the Client.
  • Interpreting client specifications to develop project functional design specifications, software design specifications, test specifications, and drawings in accordance with both the project documentation requirements and Powell UK standard procedures.
  • Generate and maintain detailed technical documents as required during the course of project development.
  • Test the project implementations in accordance with the project specifications.
  • Participate with team members in design reviews.
  • To execute the work in the most cost-effective manner and provide the best possible commercial return.
  • Be conversant with various software packages used throughout the Company, and when necessary, use them to good effect to carry out design-related activities.
  • Ensure that company procedures and standards are adhered to.
  • To keep up to date with the latest technology and review the manufacturing market for suitable equipment which will improve the companies’ solutions to client requirements.
  • The safe and timely execution of Site Services contracts in the UK, Offshore, and Overseas, including assisting in producing Health & Safety Work Method Statements & Risk Assessments.
  • Ensure the timely completion of Site Work documentation (Site Reports, Site Work Time sheets, Site Work Expenses, etc.).

  • The ability to effectively communicate using both verbal and written communication that delivers high levels of confidence in those dealt with.
  • The ability to meet the expectations of both internal and external customers and suppliers through a sound understanding of their requirements, being responsive to their needs and exceeding their requirements.
  • The ability to think through and adopt a clear, sensible approach to planning, prioritizing, and organizing tasks and activities to meet deadlines and targets.
  • The ability to pragmatically solve problems using varied approaches and considering all relevant factors and options before making a decision/taking action.
  • Proactive in approach, resilient under pressure, ability to maintain clarity and vision, and possesses a strong results orientation.

Employment & Educational Background

  • Ideally degree qualified or working towards degree qualifications or HNC in electrical engineering or a completed apprenticeship in Engineering.
  • Experience in Electrical engineering gained within a switchgear or related industry.
  • Strong experience of PLC Programming is essential to this role (Allen Bradley RS Logix 5000). Please only apply if you can demonstrate PLC experience from your application.
  • Ideally knowledge and experience of the following: Industrial Protocols (IEC61850, Modbus RTU/TCP, DeviceNet, Profibus, etc.), Network infrastructure and management techniques, MS SQL, InTouch / WinCC.
  • Knowledge of 3 Phase power distribution and motors, Industrial power control and protection, and Power Management Systems is desirable.
