As part of our growth, our Ecology team is looking to recruit a Technical Director. Our Ecology team comprises over 60 ecologists with more than 30 years of experience in ecological surveys, assessments, and advice on soil, land use, hydrology, sustainable drainage, arboriculture, ecosystem services, natural capital, biodiversity strategies, and cultural heritage. We have completed over 2,000 projects across the UK, Europe, and beyond for public and private clients. The Technical Director will be responsible for quality control, coordination, and completion of ecological projects across our diverse client base, which includes urban and greenfield residential developments, regulators, local governments, infrastructure projects, and developers. You will play a key role in coaching and leading the team, ensuring engagement in challenging projects that support their growth.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing projects, budgets, and client meetings
- Ensuring technical quality of project deliverables
- Overseeing ecological surveys, data analysis, and report production
- Providing ecological advice across various issues
- Managing license applications, mitigation, and monitoring
- Supervising mitigation activities and liaising with authorities
- Performance management and training of team members
- Designing research projects and developing best practices
- Managing successful bids
Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive leadership experience with ecological principles and legislation knowledge
- Proven record in ecological assessments and environmental statements
- Knowledge of natural capital and biodiversity net gain is desirable
- Expertise in specific plant/animal groups and survey skills
- Membership of CIEEM and Chartered Ecologist or equivalent
- Survey and/or development licenses preferred
