Role description:
Arcadis is currently searching for a Staff Resident Construction Inspector/Engineer – Water / Wastewater, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, to join our Water Business Line team on projects around the greater Boston and southern New England area. This position would also offer the opportunity to transition to an office-focused, water resources design engineer role.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. As Staff Resident Construction Inspector, you will utilize your experience and technical knowledge to successfully oversee the construction of a new wastewater pump station and affiliated pipeline construction. The role could also expand to design and oversight of new water/sewer/stormwater pipeline and infrastructure rehabilitation construction projects, reporting to the Senior Project Manager.
Role accountabilities:
As Staff Resident Construction Inspector, you will provide construction oversight and management through all phases of wastewater pump station and sewer projects.
Review plans and specifications for assigned projects, attend pre-construction conferences, progress meetings, safety meetings and bid openings.
Inspect and assure quality of work, testing procedures, inspection protocols and construction techniques.
Complete and maintain detailed, daily construction activity logs tracking construction progress, personnel and equipment, and time and materials utilization.
Monitor and track contractor progress and adherence to contract schedule.
Review and respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs), change order requests and periodic payment applications.
Act as liaison to office design staff for obtaining field information related to the answering of correspondence, RFI\’s and review of shop drawings.
Assure that materials used on projects are in compliance with approved plans, specifications, submittal and ordinances, on behalf of Clients and Project Managers.
Monitor performance of contractors, subcontractors and suppliers and follow up on and relay any issues to clients and managers, including any changes or deviations from plans.
Use oral, written and computer communication skills to effectively participate in progress, project, safety, scheduling and other contract administration meetings with client, contractors, local agencies and the community.
Qualifications & Experience:
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
- A minimum of 5 years of responsible Construction Management / Resident Inspection experience
- BS in Engineering or Construction Management
- Familiarity and experience with pump station building and pipeline construction
- Prior experience as an Inspector or Junior Resident Engineer/Inspector on wastewater construction projects
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Experience and basic proficiency with the MS Office Suite (particularly Word and Excel)
- Prior experience with processing RFI’s, Time-and-material record keeping, processing contractor’s monthly payment requests, Change Order negotiations, and claim resolution support.
Preferred qualifications include, but are not limited to:
- New pipeline/sewer construction or pipeline/sewer rehabilitation construction methods, including cured-in-place pipe lining
- NASSCO PACP/MACP training and certification
- Active participation in a regional or national professional association
