Role Description
Working as part of a multidisciplinary estimating team, the Senior Estimator is responsible for the preparation, review and assurance of detailed electrical and mechanical cost estimates, including associated indirect costs, allowances, risks and opportunities.
The role maintains clear audit trails of estimating assumptions, methodologies, benchmarks and source data to support estimate transparency and confidence in decision making.
You will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of robust, accurate and risk informed capital cost estimates for complex multidisciplinary engineering and construction projects.
The role focuses on electrical, mechanical and MEP systems across the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and delivery, supporting both onshore and offshore programmes.
You will develop and own the estimating strategy and estimate execution plan, coordinates inputs from engineering, commercial and project controls teams, and ensures that estimates are prepared in accordance with Arcadis methodologies, governance requirements and industry best practice and recognised estimating standards including CESMM4, ICMS2 and ICMS3
You will provide technical leadership during estimate reviews, supports independent assurance activities, and presents estimate outcomes and key cost drivers to estimating leadership, project stakeholders and senior management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain project Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) and ensure alignment with clients programme Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
- Lead the development of detailed Electrical and Mechanical estimates from concept through to detailed design.
- Apply Recognised cost classification and measurement standards CESMM4, ICMS2 and ICMS3.
- Prepare quantities, cost models, benchmark analyses and estimating reports.
- Develop estimate basis documents, registers, productivity models and benchmarking analysis.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary estimating inputs from civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and process disciplines.
- Support estimating activities for major infrastructure, nuclear, defence, energy, utilities, industrial, offshore and onshore projects.
- Review contractor quotations and assess value engineering opportunities.
- Support cost assurance and estimate validation exercises.
- Mentor and coach junior and intermediate estimators.
- Present estimate outcomes to clients and senior stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with Arcadis estimating standards, governance and quality procedures.
- Support business development and client relationship activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Significant experience in electrical, mechanical or MEP estimating.
- Demonstrable experience producing estimates for large and complex capital programmes.
- Strong understand of CBS and WBS development and integration.
- Working knowledge of CESMM4, ICMS2 and ICMS3 estimating and cost classification methodologies.
- Experience in sectors such as Nuclear, Defence, Energy, Utilities, Transportation or Buildings.
- Strong understanding of cost planning, risk analysis and benchmarking techniques.
- Experience reviewing contractor pricing and commercial submissions.
- Strong stakeholder management, leadership and technical review capabilities.
- Experience with Cost X, Candy, Excel, Power BI
