As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal Environmental Consultant with a broad range of EIA experience. You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate Environmental Impact Assessments and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business and mentor others in the team.

Role accountabilities:

  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development, and delivering optimal environmental outcomes.
  • Undertaking your own work to an excellent standard, and reviewing the work of others.
  • Working in partnership with other members of the Impact Assessment Team across the UK.
  • Proactively managing selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors and quality assurance.
  • Lead and support tender proposal/bids – working as part of a project winning team.
  • Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues.
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders.
  • Developing outstanding reports – an ability to summarise and explain outcomes to non-technical audiences will be critical for this.
  • Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Good knowledge of EIA practices and procedures and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms.
  • Experience across a range of project types, ideally within the energy, residential/mixed use/regeneration sector, as well as in other major infrastructure projects including rail/highways.
  • Proven experience of managing and coordinating EIA screening and scoping activities and Environmental Statements including the technical review of specialist chapters.
  • Practical working knowledge of the UK planning system and consenting process.
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills.
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders.
  • The ability to work as part of an established team, supervising members of staff as applicable.
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards.
  • A valid UK driving licence.

Desired:

  • Experience in the delivery of SEA and/or Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) projects.
  • Knowledge and application experience of sustainability, waste or carbon assessments.
