We're hiring for multiple Principal Mechanical Design Engineer roles on exciting upcoming projects and programmes for AMP8, and be part of a team driving innovation and excellence. You'll play a key role as a leader within our multidisciplinary delivery teams, working on a variety of water and wastewater capital projects where you'll have the opportunity to apply your technical expertise to clients regionally as well as across the UK.
Arcadis continues to grow its water sector engineering team following the successful appointment to a number of long‑term design partner agreements across the UK. We are working alongside collaborative delivery partners in the north of England, as well as with design‑and‑build contractors and water utility clients in the south. With several of these frameworks extending well into AMP9, this role offers people the chance to build lasting relationships, develop their careers within a stable pipeline of work, and play a meaningful part in shaping resilient water infrastructure for the future.
Role accountabilities
- Ability to self‑start and work both independently and as a team member carrying out production, checking, review or approval of complex mechanical design deliverables.
- Leading design and advisory services relating to new and existing water and wastewater conveyance and treatment assets.
- Ensuring safety of yourself and others through design leadership and actions.
- Technical delivery of multi‑disciplinary projects, in a Design Lead capacity where assigned, using latest digital design processes and resources.
- Identify and develop innovative and optimised technical solutions based on client needs and drivers.
- Lead and co‑ordinate work with multi‑disciplinary teams (e.g., process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and ICA).
- Establish and grow relationships with clients and delivery partners on project technical, commercial and progress matters.
- Ensuring projects meet required technical, legislative, quality, safety and environmental standards and objectives.
- Mentoring and technical supervising colleagues with their professional development.
- Line management and performance development responsibility for assigned staff.
- Capturing key project and technical knowledge, including innovations.
- Promote MEICA team capability and achievements both internally and externally.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other directly related degree.
- Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., IMechE, IET, CIWEM).
- Significant experience and track record in technical delivery of process plant systems on complex engineering projects, preferably related to water and wastewater industry.
- Experience of working on design and construct projects using digital design platforms.
- Team leader with collaborative behaviours.
- Feasibility to detailed design stage delivery experience.
