We are excited to be growing our Structural Engineering team within the Places Design Practice. We are looking for a Junior Structural Engineer based in the UK with a strong interest in developing technical skills and acquiring experience in a wide range of projects. We work for a multitude of clients at national and international level on projects varied in type and size. We cover different sectors, with prevalent focus on industrial manufacturing, technology, education, government and defence.
In our engineering team you will contribute to the creation of some of the world’s most iconic and innovative structures. You will design spaces that transform the world around us while bringing people together. Some of our recent projects include data centers, distribution centers, gigafactories and other manufacturing facilities for the automotive industry, factories for microprocessors and a variety of other industrial buildings, accommodation facilities, offices, retail premises, schools and other public buildings. We are active in the design or technical advisory at all stages of projects, both for new and existing buildings (including assets with stringent security requirements). We work with our clients around the world to create smart, safe and sustainable places where people live, work, learn and thrive.
As part of our multidisciplinary team and deploying our digital solutions, you will help Arcadis in the mission of improving quality of life.
Role accountabilities:
- Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will be supporting the design and coordination of structures on a range of projects in our various sectors of activity.
- You will carry out specific design tasks, site visits in the UK and possibly abroad, coordination activities with other disciplines and our BIM modellers, while developing knowledge of engineering and BIM software.
- You will take a proactive role in your professional development by starting or maintaining graduate membership of a relevant engineering institution (IStructE or ICE), with the objective of progressing towards higher grades of membership in accordance with a programme agreed with your line manager or assigned mentor.
- You will have the opportunity to collaborate with the wider teams at Arcadis, both nationally and internationally.
Note that this role does not sit inside the formal graduate programme of Arcadis (GROW). While mentorship and support will be provided, including for progression towards professional chartership, the successful candidate will not be eligible for the structured activities within the GROW programme.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant degree.
- Graduate membership of the IStructE or the ICE (or willingness to join one of these institutions as a graduate).
- Eligibility to achieve SC security clearance.
- Structural engineering background from academic studies and strong interest in developing your technical abilities through further learning and on-the-job experience.
- Some familiarity with commonly used structural materials from your engineering studies.
- Awareness of modelling methods typical of commonly used structural analysis and design programs.
- Outstanding commitment to health and safety and some awareness of relevant legal requirements.
- Good communication skills and commitment to develop them to a level of excellence.
- Thoroughness when preparing or checking your own work, passion for quality and attention to detail when reviewing the work of others.
- Interest in sustainable solution and commitment to sustainable outcomes.
- Ability to successfully manage your time and workload.
- Willingness to support other members of the team, the wider Arcadis and our clients as required.
