As a Cost Planning & Estimating Senior professional, you will be a key contributor to our strategy, 'Accelerating a Planet Positive Future', our commitment to achieving a Net-Zero carbon future. You will specialise in estimating costs for critical infrastructure projects within the Electricity Transmission sector. Your expertise will be instrumental in planning and executing construction or modifications to overhead lines, substations, buried cables, and power tunnels. You will work closely with strategic sourcing, contract management, and project teams, ensuring the accuracy and quality of cost plans and estimates while supporting winning bidding strategies.
Role accountabilities
- Cost Estimation: Develop detailed and accurate cost plans and estimates for various construction activities (civil, mechanical, and electrical) within high-voltage electrical projects (132kV to 400kV).
- Procurement & Contracting: Collaborate on the development of comprehensive bidding strategies that are competitive and align with project objectives.
- Project Optimisation: Provide critical insights to support project development, identify cost‑effective solutions, and promote continuous improvement. This includes conducting cost‑benefit analyses, identifying potential risks and opportunities, and recommending strategies to optimise project outcomes.
- Bid Analysis: Competitively assess and benchmark bids, presenting findings to project teams and contributing to informed decision‑making.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in infrastructure cost planning and estimating within the Electrical Transmission industry.
- Extensive knowledge of high‑voltage electrical construction projects, encompassing overhead lines, substations, and cable systems.
- Deep understanding of construction techniques, materials, and their associated costs.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Proficiency in using relevant cost planning and estimating software (CANDY and Cost-X).
- Professional membership (CIOB, RICS, ICE, etc.).
- Experience in project risk assessment and contingency planning for regulated companies.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, in small teams, and proactively.
