We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Management Accountant to join our Finance Team. Based from our Customer Support Centre in Walsall, the role will work on a hybrid basis.
The Assistant Management Accountant will support the delivery of the month-end management accounts specifically focusing on Stock. The role has a defined set of responsibilities across both the profit & loss account and the balance sheet and will be expected to produce and present the monthly results to the senior finance team. The key measures of success will be delivery of results on time, to a high standard with clear and concise communication.

Your Impact and Responsibilities…
As Assistant Management Accountant will you:
- Assist with month end close activities to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Provide support to the Finance team in the preparation and posting of month end schedules and journals for Stock (accruals, prepayments, recharges).
- Support the production of monthly management accounts and variance analysis for Stock.
- Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
- Prepare inventory ageing, slow-moving, and obsolete stock reports.
- Investigate stock variances, including shrinkage, damages, and theft, and prepare variance analysis reports.
- Assist in posting inventory-related journal entries and stock adjustments.
- Reconcile inventory records between EPOS systems and ERP/accounting systems.
- Gain an understanding of UK/ROI VAT and Corporation Tax returns to assist the Team in achieving challenging external submission deadlines.
- The production of Office of National Statistics submissions and other external surveys.
- Identify and drive financial efficiency improvement opportunities.
- Work with the Finance Manager to develop linkages across all other departments to improve communication and support across the business.
- Support the preparation of weekly, monthly and annual reporting for Poundland Limited.
- Assist the Finance Manager on ad hoc analysis and projects.
Skills and Knowledge…
We are looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience in an Assistant Management Accountant role or similar.
- Previous experience in Retail based finance role is preferred but not essential.
- Experience of stock based management accountancy would be highly desirable but not essential.
- Worked with EPOS systems and ERP/accounting software such as Oracle Fusion.
- Exposure to audits and statutory reporting processes (Desirable).
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting and balance sheet reconciliations (Desirable).
- Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail (Essential).
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills. The ability to provide real added value, insight and interpretation into the numbers you are reporting.
- Additionally, it is preferable to be part-qualified or studying towards a professional accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent).
