We are looking for a Merchandiser to join our General Merchandise Merchandising team. The role is based in our Customer Support Centre (Head Office) in Walsall and will work on a hybrid basis.
Working in partnership with the Commercial team, the Merchandiser will deliver the range construction, planned sales, profit and stock targets within defined categories. With autonomy and trust to make an impact from day one, as a Merchandiser, you will:
- Analyse historical information through SWOT assessments and lessons learnt presentations to develop sales and profit plans in line with business requirements.
- Work with the Senior Merchandiser, buying and technical teams to shape departmental strategy based on trend, historical data and market knowledge.
- Deliver the supplier strategy within the buying and merchandising teams to ensure all key objectives are achieved, risks minimised with regular progress reviews with key stakeholders.
- Support the wider business objectives through key measures and objectives with a focus on range size, product phasing and category mixes ensuring the offer supports the strategic objectives and fits the departmental space plan.
- Work with Buying team to build balanced and profitable ranges within the planned options, space and phasing guardrails protecting the core offer whilst offering choice and newness.
- Plan the range to ensure that the offer and buy fits the sales and profit plan.
- Review and react to trading conditions with the buyer and senior merchandiser, adjusting plans to maximise sales opportunities and mitigate risk.
- Input into the development of the Marketing Activity Planning Calendar to ensure key events are planned and executed.
- Lead the weekly trading process, identify sales opportunities and risk and formulate remedial action plans when necessary.
- Work through any future promotional strategies ensuring they are properly planned, meeting sales and margin targets and that the results are analysed.
We are seeking someone with:
- Experience within a similar Head Office Merchandiser role in the retail sector with a large store network.
- Previous experience of the General Merchandise and/or Clothing sector is highly desirable.
- Strong working knowledge of the buying cycle and critical path process.
- Knowledge of international supply chain processes to support the sourcing model.
- Excellent analytic and numerical skills with the ability to use results of that analysis to deliver sales and profit opportunities and manage budgets effectively.
