Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Food Safety Manager to join our team at our Gower Street site in Farnworth, Bolton, where you will be based, to ensure quality and food safety at our retail outlets and the storage and distribution depot at Gower Street are complied with. Hours/Days - Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm, 37.5 hours per week (flexibility will be required at times due to the nature of the role to travel across our estate and visit retail shops).

Responsibilities

  • Retail Outlets Food Safety Compliance - focusing on preventing foodborne illness by controlling risks during the handling, preparation, storage, and display of food. Key priorities include preventing cross‑contamination, maintaining proper hot/cold temperatures, ensuring high personal hygiene standards, and implementing HACCP base approach. Dealing with Local Authorities to ensure high FHR maintained and achieved.
  • Storage & Distribution Depot - managing the QA function across intake, raw materials, storage and distribution of products to outlets. Working closely with Retail Operation Managers, Area Sales Manager, Senior Management Team. You will also sit on the site senior management team, contributing to operational decision‑making and aligning technical priorities with commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own food safety, legality, due diligence, and product integrity across the supply base, ensuring consistently safe and compliant products in Retail outlets.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant standards, including BRCGS and Local Authorities.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain ethical compliance systems across suppliers and sites.
  • Create, implement, and continuously improve food safety and technical compliance strategies, policies, and procedures within retail outlets and the QMS.
  • Lead implementation and auditing of the Business Compliance Standards and internal audit programmes across all sites, driving best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Manage supplier approval where necessary, assurance, compliance KPIs, and the supplier assurance and compliance budget.
  • Work closely with Retail Operations and Marketing to ensure products developed, legally labelling approved for retail outlets.
  • Partner with senior leadership and suppliers to maintain food safety and due diligence standards, in place and maintained.

You will have or what you need

  • Experience working in a food retail environment and knowledge of FS requirements for food retailers.
  • Proven auditing experience within food manufacturing, storage and distribution for perishable food environments, with a strong technical background and understanding of food.
  • Experience working across multiple food categories (including produce), multi‑site operations, and with major retailers and foodservice customers.
  • Strong people leadership capability/experience, with excellent communication skills and the ability to lead, develop, and influence teams at all levels.
  • Proven Auditor/Assessor experience with Advanced Food Hygiene and HACCP Level 3–4 certification.
