Potter + Moore Innovations Ltd is the key trading company based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire and focuses on the design, manufacture and distribution of product in its three key operating functions; Brands (owned), Private Label Supply and Contract Manufacturing.
We are seeking a hands‑on Project Engineer to lead and support electrical, automation, and machinery projects across our beauty and personal care manufacturing and packaging operations. This role requires experience with high‑speed machinery, packaging equipment and fabrication, alongside strong skills in electrical systems and programming. The Project Engineer will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with hygiene and quality standards. The role is based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, with regular travel required to our Tiverton, Devon site.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead electrical and automation projects for production and packaging machinery, including installation, commissioning, upgrades and modifications.
- Manage high‑speed filling, capping, labeling and cartoning line projects, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, production and quality teams to design and implement improvements.
- Support troubleshooting and fault‑finding during project rollouts to ensure reliability and efficiency.
- Design, install and modify electrical control panels, wiring and schematics.
- Program, modify and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs and other automation systems (e.g. Siemens, Allen‑Bradley, Mitsubishi).
- Ensure compliance with electrical, safety and hygiene standards (including GMP and ISO requirements).
- Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and support continuous improvement initiatives as part of projects.
- Oversee or support fabrication of custom machinery, guards, fixtures and automation components.
- Interpret technical drawings and contribute to engineering solutions tailored for production needs.
- Use CAD and programming tools to support machine automation, optimisation and modification projects.
- Maintain accurate documentation including electrical drawings, programmes and project records.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on automation, efficiency, cost reduction and product quality.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineering teams, technicians and operators.
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience as an Electrical or Project Engineer in a manufacturing environment, ideally FMCG or beauty & personal care.
- Hands‑on experience with high‑speed machinery and packaging equipment.
- Expertise in electrical fault‑finding, installation and maintenance.
- Experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs and automation systems.
- Ability to support or oversee fabrication and modification of machinery.
- Knowledge of electrical safety standards and hygiene/GMP regulations.
- Experience with servo systems, drives, sensors and industrial automation.
- Familiarity with beauty and personal care manufacturing equipment (filling, capping, labeling, cartoning).
- Exposure to CAD software, engineering programming tools and automation design.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation or related discipline.
