Our client is a highly respected residential developer with a strong reputation for delivering quality traditional housing developments across the Essex Patch.
As their business continues to grow, they are seeking an experienced Head of Construction to lead the operational delivery of a portfolio of roughly 12 live residential developments.
This is a strategic leadership role for an accomplished construction professional with extensive experience within volume housebuilding.
You will be responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
The Role
Reporting to the Construction Director, you will provide leadership and direction to a team of Contracts Managers, Site Managers and Construction teams across multiple live developments.
You will oversee all aspects of construction delivery, ensuring consistency, quality and performance across the region while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the construction delivery of multiple live traditional housing development s across the region.
- Manage and mentor Contracts Managers, Site Managers and wider construction teams.
- Ensure all developments are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the company's quality standards.
- Drive improvements in build quality, customer satisfaction and construction efficiency.
- Monitor build programmes and resource allocation to ensure projects remain on track.
- Work closely with Technical, Commercial, Land, Planning and Customer Care teams to achieve successful project delivery.
- Champion health, safety and environmental best practice across all sites.
- Review operational performance, identifying risks and implementing effective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, NHBC standards and company procedures.
- Support recruitment, succession planning and the ongoing development of construction teams.
- Build strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and external stakeholders.
- Provide regular operational reporting and strategic updates to senior leadership.
About You
The successful candidate will have
- Proven experience as a Head of Construction, Senior Contracts Manager, Construction Manager or Contracts Director within a volume housebuilder or residential developer.
- A successful track record of managing multiple live traditional housing developments simultaneously.
- Strong leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing construction teams.
- Extensive knowledge of traditional housebuilding methods and residential construction best practice.
- Excellent commercial awareness with a focus on programme delivery, quality and cost control.
- In-depth understanding of UK Building Regulations, NHBC standards and current health and safety legislation.
- Exceptional communication, decision-making and stakeholder management skills.
- A proactive and collaborative leadership style with a passion for delivering high-quality homes.
- Relevant construction qualification (HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent).
- Full UK driving licence.
