Reporting into the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Officer will support the delivery of end-to-end payroll services, ensuring all salaries, deductions and pensions are processed accurately and on time, in line with statutory requirements and internal policies. The role is full‑time, permanent, based in the Bournemouth area.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate and process three monthly payrolls for teaching and support staff (circa 680 employees)
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and pension schemes including Teachers' Pensions, LGPS and NEST
  • Reconcile payroll reports and maintain accurate, auditable records
  • Provide knowledgeable payroll support to colleagues via email, telephone and face‑to‑face
  • Support year‑end HMRC and pension reconciliations and associated audits
  • Work collaboratively with People and Finance teams to ensure a smooth employee experience
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll processes
  • Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role and grade

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in full payroll administration (education sector experience beneficial but not essential)
  • Strong numerical ability with excellent attention to detail
  • Clear communicator with a calm, solution‑focused approach
  • Able to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
