What to expect

Senior developers will be responsible for building, maintaining and supporting our internal applications. As a team member in the nascent Digital & Branch Engineering function this role will help deliver new applications and service as we modernise our trading platforms making them vastly better for Postmasters and Customers.

You will be working c ollaboratively with key stakeholders across the business and embedding best practices aligned to our strategic goal.

To be successful in this role you will be well versed in:

  • Produce and contribute to the development of fully functional, cloud-native applications and microservices.
  • Collaborate with the wider development team to support Agile delivery processes.
  • Produce and maintain clean, high-quality code that is testable, maintainable, and observable.
  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
  • Support the full application lifecycle, from concept and design through to testing, release, and ongoing support.
  • Accelerate delivery by implementing and leveraging automation, CI/CD pipelines, and development tools.
  • Continuously improve and refactor the codebase to increase efficiency, maintainability, and performance.
  • Implement and promote development best practices, including code reviews, testing frameworks, and coding standards.
  • Support, coach, and mentor junior developers.
  • Contribute to and maintain accurate technical documentation.
  • Liaise with product teams, project stakeholders, and developers to ensure successful delivery and alignment of expectations.
  • Identify, manage, and resolve risks, issues, defects, and technical challenges, while deputising for the Lead Developer when required.

Technical Requirements

  • Experience of full-stack software development principles, architecture and conventions
  • Experience of cloud-native micro-services and distributed systems (ideally AWS)
  • Strong understanding of data structures and architectures, using relational and/or non-relational database approaches
  • A strong understanding test-driven development and testing conventions
  • Experience of developing RESTful APIs
  • Understanding of IT security/risk
  • Experience with workflow and code versioning tools, such as Jira and Git
  • BSc degree in Computer Science, relevant field or equivalent
