What to expect

The Procurement Category Specialist is a key member of the Commercial Management team, responsible for contributing to the delivery of functional objectives, always modelling the Post Office behaviours, and demonstrating a Postmaster first mindset.

The Procurement Category Specialist will specialise in Market Scanning and Market Research, leveraging insights in supporting high-value strategic sourcing activities to drive an advantage. Category Specialist is an expert role, emphasising research and market expertise to inform high-value sourcing, with less direct team oversight. They will embody a culture of inclusion, continuous improvement, and high performance, with a key focus on delivery. You will also assist on strategic procurements and lead on managing low-to-medium-value procurements.

What you’ll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will need to have an understanding of market trends and developments in Procurement Category Management. In addition you will possess:

• Experience in establishing cross functional stakeholder relationships

• Commercially oriented with a good business acumen

• Experience across a range of indirect and revenue generating categories in either sourcing or category management roles ideally within Retail – Suitable and relevant categories would include Facilities Management, Equipment, Construction, Shop-Fit and Commercial Fleet Management.

• Demonstrable experience leading on the delivery of procurement milestones

• Experience of the end-to-end procurement cycle within a public procurement environment with experience of the Public Contract Regulations 2015 and/or Procurement Act 2023 would be beneficial

• Ideally MCIPS qualified or working towards MCIPS certification
