Post Office Insurance (POI) is a separately incorporated, FCA‑regulated subsidiary of Post Office Limited, subject to external audit and dedicated regulatory reporting requirements. The Management Accountant is a key member of the POI Finance team, responsible for the accurate, timely and compliant production of management accounts, statutory financial statements and regulatory reporting. The role plays a critical part in financial period‑end delivery, balance‑sheet integrity, audit management and maintaining a strong financial control environment within a regulated insurance business.
The role works closely with business and finance stakeholders to provide high‑quality financial insight, drive continuous improvement in accounting and reporting processes, and support sound financial decision‑making. The role will primarily be focused on financial period end and will help the business function finance teams to understand, analyse and evaluate income and costs. They will embody a culture of inclusion, continuous improvement, and high performance, with a key focus on delivery. To be successful in this role you will be a CIMA/ACA/ACCA qualified accountant, or finalist, with a clear pathway to qualification if part‑qualified. In addition to this, you will:
- Demonstrate experience in the production of management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, producing balance sheet reconciliations and effective variance analysis.
- Experience of regulatory or financial reporting within a controlled environment.
- Previous experience within insurance industry strongly preferred.
- Have knowledge of using ERP and finance systems (preferably SAP), including operating within a Shared Services model.
- Proven experience in analysing large datasets and producing reports and dashboards for senior management.
- Demonstratable strong technical accounting knowledge and financial control mindset.
- Strong Excel skills – SUMIFs, Pivots, Lookups, etc ideally with Power BI capability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt communication styles and collaborate cross‑functionally to drive successful outcomes and business decisions.
