This is an exciting opportunity for motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individuals to join a team to support a family in caring for their 34-year-old son with cerebral palsy and associated complex care needs. Our client is a charmer and rather loveable, having built great relationships with his existing team. He enjoys attention and has a fun-loving personality which you would be privileged to get to know.

If successful, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills while contributing to his therapy programme, which is encoded into his day-to-day activities. Supported by a team of professionals, you will undertake a range of duties to support our client, working closely with other members of the team and family in providing the highest standards of care and support.

Shifts Available:

  • Week One – Thu 18:00–22:00
  • Week Two – Mon 18:00–22:00, Thu 18:00–22:00, Sat 08:00–22:00
  • Week Four – Sat 10:00–22:00

Total hours – 38 hours a month

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide sensitive, person-centred care within the family home, maintaining a calm, respectful, and encouraging presence.
  • Build a trusting relationship with both the client and their family, supporting their emotional wellbeing and promoting a positive, structured routine.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, case manager, and therapists to ensure consistency of care and rehabilitation goals.
  • Implement therapy programmes designed by physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists.
  • Embed therapeutic strategies into the client’s everyday life, encouraging participation in exercises, communication tasks, and cognitive activities.
  • Monitor and record progress, sharing observations with the therapy team to support ongoing goal review.
  • Encourage motivation and engagement in meaningful, age-appropriate activities that support our client.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with mobility, transfers, postural management, and personal care routines.
  • Support medication administration and gastrostomy feeding, monitoring the client’s physical and emotional wellbeing, promptly reporting any changes or concerns.
  • Facilitate community access, ensuring activities are enjoyable, purposeful, and aligned with therapies.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and family-friendly environment that fosters confidence and progress.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic records of all care, observations, and therapy-related activities.
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies, confidentiality standards, and professional boundaries at all times.
  • Participate in supervision, reflective practice, and specialist training to continually develop skills and uphold excellent practice.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable individuals.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic IT skills for recording and reporting.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding practices.
  • Right to work in the UK (unfortunately we do not offer sponsorship).
  • Willingness to undergo a DBS check.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (if role requires travel).

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a care or support role.
  • Experience of epilepsy.
  • Level 2 or above qualification in Health and Social Care (or working towards it).
  • First Aid and Manual Handling training.
  • Knowledge of person-centred care approaches.
  • Understanding of specific needs (e.g., mental health, learning disabilities, autism, elderly care, epilepsy).
  • Multilingual skills or cultural awareness (if relevant to client base).
