We are currently looking to recruit a Maintenance Technician to join a newly opened specialist secondary school supporting young people aged 11-16 with social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs, often associated with Autism based in Chaldon.
The Role
You will ensure the school site, grounds, and equipment are maintained to a high standard, supporting a safe and functional learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. Your work will help safeguard health, safety, and general wellbeing across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete maintenance tasks efficiently and proactively
- Respond to maintenance requests using online ticketing software
- Assist with movement and installation of furniture and equipment
- Maintain and check vehicles, including mileage logs and usage registers
- Ensure safe storage of tools, equipment, materials, and keys
- Assist with regular inspections of building services, utilities, and fabric
- Carry out minor repairs, including carpentry, painting/decorating, and furniture fixes
- Follow health and safety procedures, including COSHH and safe working principles
- Build positive relationships with staff, students, and stakeholders
- Support any additional tasks as directed to maintain site operations
Qualifications & Experience
Desirable:
- Qualified First Aider
- Health & Safety qualifications (Working at Height, Manual Handling, COSHH)
- Additional trade skills (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting/decorating)
- D1 driving qualification
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years experience in a similar site maintenance role
- Full UK Driving License (own vehicle required due to location)
- Understanding of safe working principles and Health & Safety legislation
- Mechanical experience or basic machine maintenance
- Competent in using a range of tools and carrying out general maintenance tasks
- IT skills to operate internal audit systems and asset management
- Flexibility to work unsociable hours when required
