Positive Employment is currently recruiting for an Accountancy Assistant for our client, a government organisation in Newport, Wales. The successful post holder will provide financial support within the service group including final accounts preparation, the production of annual estimates and provision of monthly budgetary control information. This role is a temporary contract initially for 1 year with the possibility to extend. This role is 4 days working at home and 1 day in the office a week.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for specific areas or tasks in relation to the service group’s final accounts;
  • Responsible for specific areas or tasks in relation to the preparation of the service group’s budgets;
  • Assist with the maintenance and development of the Authority’s financial systems as they impact on the service group and enhance training and financial awareness;
  • Assist in financial monitoring of the service group’s units through the completion of all routine, regular tasks and provision of information; getting particularly involved in the outturn forecasting of staffing costs on a monthly basis for example.
  • Provide relevant data and assist in the completion of grant claims, statistical and statutory returns;
  • Assist in monitoring expenditure incurred as part of the capital or minor works programme;

Personal requirements

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs A – C (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Studying for, or attainment of foundation level AAT or introductory level CAT or NVQ/SVQ level 2 Accounting.
  • Understanding of principles of accounting within the Public Sector.
  • Practical experience of final accounts preparation and / or budgetary control work.
  • Experience of communicating financial information to non-finance managers.
  • Be able to communicate financial information effectively with colleagues.
  • Be able to set priorities and complete tasks with a minimum of supervision.
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for IT skills with advanced spreadsheet and / or database knowledge.

Working Hours

37 hrs / 9:00am - 17:00pm / Monday - Friday

Pay

£67.52 per hour

Please note this role is within the scope of IR35.
