Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Paralegal for our client, a government organisation in Lambeth, London. The successful post holder will carry out legal and support tasks in one or more of the fields of civil and criminal litigation, planning, housing, social services, employment, regeneration, contracts and conveyance or any other function within the organisation's duties. This role is a temporary contract initially for 3 months with the possibility to extend. This role is hybrid working with 1 day per week in the office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out a range of legal duties as allocated, including dealing with routine legal enquiries by way of telephone and correspondence, obtaining and recording key dates (including hearing dates), writing letters, obtaining statements under the supervision of the senior lawyer.
  • Undertake data protection tasks and complete disclosure requests for stakeholders.
  • Liaise with officers and managers in other departments, keeping them informed of progress of cases and taking any other appropriate measures to ensure continued client satisfaction.
  • Collect and present all necessary statistical data and reports for the team as required.
  • Maximise the use and effectiveness of information technology systems including maintaining electronic court diaries.
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out with due regard to the provisions of health and safety legislation, the organisation’s Equal Opportunities and Customer Care Policies; quality service objectives and Directorate requirements.
  • Undertake tasks and projects as allocated by the Senior Lawyer in accordance with instructions and undertake any other duties that may be required consistent with the overall purpose and duties of the post to meet the exigencies of the service.
  • Organise and manage their own workload to enable legal services to be delivered in a timely way, maximising resources.
  • Design, develop and implement effective administrative procedures for the team.
  • Assist in the development of, operate and be conversant with the case management system and other working practices to ensure the efficient and effective use of such systems by the team.
  • Undertake legal research and assist senior staff within legal services in respect of their work and the training they provide to clients as required.
  • Make use of materials provided by the Service, e.g. electronic products, journals to ensure that they are conversant with the most current law in their area of work to enable them to give effective and efficient legal support.

Personal Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar role.
  • Relevant qualification/degree or proven equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience working for a local government organisation (Desirable).

Working Hours: 37hrs / Monday - Friday

Pay: £26.77 per hr

Please note this role is within the scope of IR35.
