Overview
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support defence programmes requiring deep, complex systems thinking. This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone who thrives in highly intricate environments and enjoys solving multifaceted engineering challenges. You will contribute to the design, analysis, and integration of systems that span multiple domains and technologies, without leading teams or managing projects.
Responsibilities
- Apply deep systems thinking to understand and model complex interdependencies across hardware, software, communications, and operational environments
- Support the development of system architectures, interface definitions, and integration strategies for defence platforms
- Analyse and interpret system requirements, ensuring traceability and alignment with customer needs and regulatory standards
- Contribute to system-level trade studies, risk assessments, and performance evaluations
- Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve technical issues and ensure system integrity throughout the lifecycle
- Maintain compliance with MOD and industry standards, including safety, security, and performance requirements
Requirements
- Essential Skills and Experience: Experience in systems engineering within defence, aerospace, or similarly complex industries
- Demonstrated ability to work with deeply complex systems involving multiple layers of abstraction and integration
- Strong grasp of systems engineering methodologies (e.g. V-model, MBSE)
- Familiarity with tools such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect, MATLAB/Simulink, or SysML
- Understanding of defence standards such as DEF STAN, MIL-STD, and JSPs
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards it
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering practices
