The Group Health, Safety and Environment Manager will have the prime function to formulate, co-ordinate and monitor all current corporate Health and Safety programmes as well as establishing new environmental programmes across all Porvair Sites. The position is intended to create a corporate lead to ensure strategic plans and programs are properly formulated and that there is a uniform implementation of the company's policies across all its sites and operations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manage the Health, Safety and environmental performance of the Division based on key performance indicators agreed with the Board.
- Formulate, write, and update the Group Health, Safety and Environmental Policy.
- Ensure training and awareness of specific responsibilities for Health Safety and Environment among Directors, Managers and employees.
- Advise Executive Management of any serious accidents or dangerous occurrences or environmental incidents; particularly those involving action or intervention of any national or local government enforcement agencies.
- Advise Line management in the formulation and implementation of risk assessments, safe systems of work or safe operating procedures.
- Carry out corporate audits of all Porvair Locations and operations.
- Advise on all new legal or statutory requirements and devise and implement action plans to ensure compliance.
- Investigate the causes of serious accidents, injuries, ill health or dangerous occurrences and carry out necessary documentation to meet Company and statutory duties.
- Analyse, produce, present and discuss accident statistics to enable the management to evaluate health safety and environmental performance and to make recommendations on preventative or remedial programmes.
- Ensure that all statutory forms, documents, registers and returns relating to Health, Safety and Environment are properly completed and submitted.
- Establish and maintain both formal and informal links with External Authorities where appropriate.
- Advise on the Health, Safety and environmental aspects in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of new plant, equipment or materials.
- Advise and review plans, layouts for buildings and re-arrangements to ensure compliance with statutory requirements for Health Safety and Environment.
- Arrange for any special measuring and monitoring of working environments/work processes using internal or external resources and expertise as considered necessary.
Expected Standards:
- A self-driven and highly motivated and experienced individual.
- Relevant practical and technical skills - Technically Competent (CMIOSH as a minimum with proof of CPD).
- Good knowledge and practical experience of ISO standards: Health & Safety ISO 45001, Environment ISO 14000.
- Pragmatic in approach.
- Able to meet identified deadlines.
- Teamworking skills to work with people from a range of disciplines and to collaborate towards a common goal.
- Business skills and commercial awareness.
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Experience in a similar Health Safety and environmental role within a manufacturing organisation.
