Main function of job: Responsible for the safe and accurate machining of metallic components using manual lathes, manual mills, and finishing equipment. Ensures all work complies with engineering drawings, internal documentation, and aerospace-quality standards, while maintaining rigorous traceability and supporting safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and compliant working environment following all Health & Safety procedures.
- Work to customer/Porvair drawings, job cards, and process sheets to meet tight tolerances.
- Conduct precision inspections using manual measurement tools.
- Maintain complete and accurate traceability documentation.
- Support MRB, NCR, and audit activities.
- Follow calibration and equipment control processes.
- Machine and finish components within planned times.
- Align priorities with production demands through coordination with the Leading Hand.
- Support throughput improvement by maintaining machine uptime.
- Maintain test sheets/routing for each component to ensure product/batch traceability.
- Minimise scrap, rework, and waste through efficient work practices and following process.
- Complete TPM routines to protect tooling and machine life.
- Use consumables responsibly and report tooling needs.
- Support improvement activities aimed at reducing machining hours and improving repeatability.
Expected Standards
- Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, and Environmental policies.
- Follow risk assessments and safe operating procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organised work area (5S).
- Use and maintain appropriate PPE.
- Report safety concerns, hazards, or faulty equipment immediately.
