At Portsmouth Water, we are excited to offer an opportunity for four Trainee Leakage Technicians to become part of our dynamic and supportive team. We are on a mission to reduce leakage across our network by 50% by 2040—10 years ahead of the industry standard. This ambitious goal is something we are deeply committed to, and we are investing in it to ensure we continue providing clean, safe water to our customers in a sustainable way.
As part of our journey, we’re seeking Trainee Leakage Technicians to join our award-winning Leakage and Smart Networks team, recently recognised as “Team of the Year.” This is an entry-level role in the water industry, with no prior experience required. We will provide full training, ensuring you have the support you need to become a qualified and competent Leakage Technician.
We are looking for motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented individuals who are eager to learn and grow. In this role, you’ll be out in the field, working to identify and respond to hidden leaks below ground. You will use your analytical skills and the latest technology—such as Correlators, Acoustic Loggers, and Ground Microphones—to accurately locate leaks and coordinate with our Repair and Maintenance teams for solutions.
You will take pride in maintaining a strong focus on Health & Safety while embodying our core values of Excellence, Integrity, and Future-Focus. As this is a customer-facing role, we’re looking for individuals with excellent communication skills, a strong technical aptitude, and a positive attitude. A full UK driving licence is essential as driving company vehicles is part of the role.

What will you be doing?
- Use state of the art leakage equipment, to detect and locate leaks, through Active Leakage Control in District Metered Areas.
- Perform correlations using a correlator and correlating noise loggers.
- Detect and locate leaks from acoustic fixed networks and non-acoustic follow ups.
- Detect and locate leaks on trunk mains.
- Contact and sign up customers for customer side leak repair escalation.
- Perform network flushing.
- Complete leakage data collection activities.
