As a Smart Supervisor, you’ll play a key role in the field-based delivery of our Smart Metering Programme, helping to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. You’ll be out on site supporting day-to-day operations, carrying out proactive checks across quality, health & safety, environment, and assurance, and making sure we meet our contractual KPIs and SLAs. Working at the heart of a busy programme, you’ll collaborate with a wide range of teams — from planners, engineers and quantity surveyors to colleagues across Networks, Water Quality, GIS, Finance, Developer Services and Customer Services. You’ll also be a visible and trusted presence for customers, parish councils, landowners and highway authorities, helping us deliver a smooth, well-coordinated service across our region.

What will you be doing? Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Quality Assurance Function with field-based activities to understand root cause and quality rectification.
  • Audit works completed on site and support the decision-making of the Programme Manager relating to commercial due diligence.
  • Support the QHSE Supervisor with auditing of operatives for Health safety and wellbeing including competency accreditation and Risk assessment compliance.
  • Ensure risks are managed proactively and in accordance with CDM regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of works information as and when required.
  • Meet Local Highways teams for forward planning and potential collaboration opportunities.
  • Liaise with contractor to assess KPI performance and log for audit.
  • Respond and investigate ‘live’ customer complaints to ensure fast customer issue resolution via despatch by the Smart delivery team.
  • Meet customers and agree access to private land, issue agreements under Water Industry Act.
  • Undertake non-complex shuts on the network and liaise with Water Quality team to address any other WQ issues.
  • Audit construction for specification compliance and provide technical support.
  • Collection and management of audit and performance data and keep systems updated.
  • Ensure that field-based operational processes and procedures are adhered to, and all works are executed to minimise disruption to water supplies.
  • Escalate any site conditions with an impact on ecology and/or biodiversity.

What do you need? Skills, Qualifications & Competencies

  • Full UK driving license.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Water Networks.
  • Competency in basic computer skills.
  • A good understanding of English and Maths.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • A proactive attitude to delivering excellent customer service.
  • A higher education certificate.
  • Experience of supervising Infrastructure works associated with Water Network.
  • NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act).
  • IOSH Managing Safely.
  • EUSR Water Hygiene.

If you are successful for the role, you will be required to undergo Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) pre-employment checks that will include a basic disclosure check. Depending on the role, you may also be required to go through the national security vetting process for either a CTC or SC clearance check. Any offer of employment is conditional upon completion and receipt of satisfactory checks.
