Portsmouth Water are delighted to be looking for a Construction Assistant to join our SMART programme on a 12-month fixed-term contract basis. The successful candidate will support our SMART water meter programme by ensuring the smooth and effective running of all below ground planned construction activities. This role is the perfect opportunity for someone with an interest in construction to develop skills and progression in the Water Industry.

What will you be doing?

  • Prepare Pre-Construction Information packs for the Contractor.
  • Ensure that works information and contract data is prepared and issued to deadlines.
  • Assist the SMART delivery team in the validation of SMART-related data.
  • Collect and log KPI (key performance indicator) information relating to Contractor performance (from performance meetings with Local Authorities and their designated suppliers).
  • Escalate issues as appropriate to support the SMART Deployment Lead in the formulation of the proposed rollout plan.
  • Adhere to company Health, safety and wellbeing policies.
  • Act in accordance with all appropriate Health and Safety legislation.
  • Report any hazards or incidents in line with company policy.
  • Be prepared to work successfully under your own supervision (with support from the Programme Manager).
  • Be flexible to support other members of the SMART delivery team with ad hoc tasks.

What do you need?

  • Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office systems.
  • A good understanding of English and Maths. GCSE pass level or equivalent is preferred.
  • A background or interest in Project Management, Construction planning and/or Civil Engineering would be advantageous.
  • An awareness of personal Health and Safety would be a benefit.
  • Evidence of previous work experience would be advantageous.
