Portsmouth Water is excited to announce multiple openings for Mechanical and Electrical Technicians in our well-respected Production Department. As an integral member of our team, you will be responsible for the maintenance of our water treatment works, enabling the effective production of safe drinking water.
What will you be doing? Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to process alarms triggered via telemetry, identifying and resolving issues or escalating where necessary.
- Diagnose and repair breakdowns across a wide range of plant equipment, assessing faults and taking appropriate corrective action.
- Investigate plant failures and carry out prompt, efficient repairs to minimise operational disruptions, including collaborating with others to resolve complex faults.
- Maintain, install, configure, commission and calibrate a wide variety of equipment including low voltage switchgear, motor drives, valves and actuators, gas and chemical dosing equipment, pneumatic plant, pumps and motors.
- Ensure that equipment is installed and calibrated to the manufacturers specifications and is auditable.
- Supervise team members and assist with their development and learning.
- Exchange information with other team members, plant operators and departments within the Company as required.
- Complete documentation accurately and in a timely manner to maintain internal change control standards.
- Monitor external activities in the areas surrounding our works for any activities that may affect the integrity of the water sources, asset reliability, available leakage measures, and levels of unplanned outage.
- Ensure the appearance, cleanliness and operation of our sites meets company standards, whilst maintaining water quality and hygiene standards.
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with the Company’s Water Production procedures and in full compliance with on-site Health, Safety and Quality Standards.
- Comply with the Company’s standards, policies, processes, systems, and procedures to ensure all risks are identified, managed, and mitigated.
- Keep work and asset records up to date to ensure that they are satisfactory for internal audits.
What do you need? Skills, Qualifications & Competencies:
- A to C grade or Level 4 or above, GCSE English, Maths and a Science based subject.
- ONC / Level 3 in electrical or mechanical engineering and a recognised apprenticeship in a relevant field within water utility or similar industry or equivalent experience.
- BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Relevant experience in a process and industrial environment.
- Knowledge of Chemical Handling.
- Knowledge of basic hydraulic principles.
- Proficient with working from electrical drawings.
- Experience of working with Human Machine Interface (HMI) / touchscreen devices.
- A good understanding of water treatment processes and/or water industry exposure.
- Computer and smart phone literate.
- Full UK driving licence (will be required to undertake our driver assessment).
