Assistant Engineer in Havant

The Assistant Engineer will support the Lead Engineer in ensuring that all design work across the Havant Thicket Reservoir (HTR) programme is technically robust, compliant, and aligned with Portsmouth Water’s standards.

You will help manage design assurance processes, coordinate technical reviews, and contribute to the development of detailed designs that will shape the reservoir’s construction, commissioning, and eventual handover.

This role is ideal for someone early in their engineering career who is eager to grow, contribute to a nationally significant infrastructure project, and work within a multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Engineering Lead with design assurance processes: meeting organisation, minute taking, tracking review responses, and forecasting and reporting on assurance progress.
• Track design reviews for approval of Design Submissions by the main works contractors.
• Track responses to Technical Queries raised by main works contractors, ensuring they are addressed within contract‐identified timescales.
• Collate stakeholder responses in the Design Submission review process and rationalise them onto a single Client Comment Sheet.
• Engage with Portsmouth Water core teams (Operations, Water Quality, Consents) to secure stakeholder engagement and report back to the Engineering Lead.
• Assist in developing new systems and processes to improve the Engineering assurance function.
• Take minutes and participate in regular meetings with Design Guardians and technical workshops between PW operations and mains works contractors.
• Coordinate general requests to and from contractors on engineering matters.

• Strong communication and presentation skills.

• Good understanding and appreciation of the design process and its commercial implications.
• Team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage and coordinate inputs from multiple parties.
• Ability to meet deadlines with a focus on results and quality.
• High competency in Excel, Power Point, Word and Teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering related field of study.
• Experience in earthworks and/or pipeline projects.
• Experience with design and construction development in a BIM, common data environment.
• Postgraduate experience preferred.
