Job summary
We are seeking new Consultant colleagues to join our team as part of our restructuring of our medical oncology urology services. These includes the urology service at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth, St Richards Hospital, Chichester, and St Marys Hospital, Isle of Wight. These posts would combine the treatment of urological malignancy with another tumour type or service, or could be all urology in a full time capacity. Examples of other tumour types could be lung, breast, melanoma, hepatobiliary/upper GI cancers or a more substantial acute oncology or ward role. We would be happy to discuss options of alternative additional subspecialty interests with candidates interested in other disease areas and welcome less than full time roles in a Urology only position.
Portsmouth Oncology Centre provides oncological treatments for patients diagnosed with urological malignancy at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth, St Richards Hospital, Chichester and St Marys Hospital Isle of Wight. There is a centralised Urological MDT for Portsmouth and Isle of Wight patients, and separate St Richards Urological MDT. Clinics run at each hospital site with chemotherapy treatment day units at each hospital. All radiotherapy is delivered at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
Main duties of the job
The Urology MDT includes a committed team of specialist surgeons; laparoscopic and robotic surgery programmes are offered. There are dedicated urology speciality radiologists with interventional radiology commitment, Medical & Clinical Oncology Consultants, Advanced Radiographers and Consultant Radiographer in Urology. Oncology clinics are supported by clinical nurse specialists and nurse/pharmacy prescribers, and a metastatic nurse specialists. Prostate brachytherapy is well established, and prostate SABR implemented, including recruitment to PACE-nodes trial. All are committed to best patient care and outcomes.
The Urology teams have a very active research portfolio of clinical studies and strong track record of recruitment to clinical trials. There are also opportunities for interests in education, with a new medical school now open in Portsmouth, and research collaboration opportunities and academic roles with the University of Portsmouth.

Qualifications
Essential
- Fully registered with GMC with a licence to practice
- Entry on the GMC Medical Oncology Specialist Register, CCT (or within 6 months at interview), or CESR/portfolio programme or European Community Rights

- Evidence of expertise in the areas of special interest relevant to the Job Plan
