Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Clinical Photographer to join our dynamic Medical Photography and Illustration team as a band 6 Senior clinical Photographer and deputy head of department. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to patient care through high-quality clinical photography, supporting diagnosis, treatment planning, education, and research.

You will work across a variety of clinical settings including wards, theatres, outpatient clinics, and a dedicated studio. Your work will include standardised patient photography, medico-legal documentation, specialist dermatology photography and creative assignments for PR and educational use.

You will be required to have an eye for detail both clinical and record keeping, with the ability to work as part of a team, as well as on your own using your initiative.

In addition, as the senior photographer you will be responsible for organising the workload of the band 5 clinical photographers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for running the clinical side of the department including:
    • Allocating annual leave, ensuring that adequate staff levels are maintained.
    • Supervision and training of photographers as required.
    • Ensuring that high quality photographs are produced.
    • Undertaking annual reviews with the photographers and ensuring that they are up-to-date with the trust essential and mandatory training.
    • Liaising with other hospital departments and clinicians to understand their clinical photography requirements.
    • Capture high-quality, repeatable clinical photographs and video in accordance with departmental protocols.
    • Manage patient consent processes and ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality policies.
    • Edit, process, and archive images using professional software and digital asset management systems.
    • Support the production of multimedia content for teaching, publication, and promotional purposes.

    About You

    • Degree in Clinical Photography, or a relevant photographic degree with a PGC in clinical photography, or 2-3 years already working in a medical photography department.
    • Strong portfolio demonstrating technical and creative photographic skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work sensitively with patients of all ages.
    • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and digital workflow management.
    • Knowledge of patient confidentiality, consent, and NHS data governance standards.

    • Experience in a healthcare or NHS setting.
