Role summary

Portsmouth Football Club is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our staff and young academy students. This role is responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of the academy players and staff during their travel on matchdays. To drive our club’s minibus in a responsible safe way, ensuring the safe travel of all the passengers, other road users and the public at all times. The role will be based at our Training Ground in Portsmouth. This role is on a rota basis including weekdays (Monday - Friday), with the majority of the work happening on Saturdays/Sundays, during the football season. You will not be expected to work both days of the weekend.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • To be responsible for supporting our academy with transporting our young players to various locations around the region and the country.
  • To ensure the safety and welfare of all the passengers of the minibus following the club’s safeguarding protocols at all times.
  • To carry out regular vehicle checks, refuel vehicle as required and basic maintenance ensuring the cleanliness of vehicle before and after use.
  • To report any vehicle defects, faults, incidents and accidents.
  • To maintain accurate records of the academy players and staff using the service.
  • To maintain accurate records of vehicle usage.
  • Always adhere to the clubs’ health and safety guidelines and other safeguarding guidelines as set out by the academy.
  • To pre‑plan any alternative road routes to and from the training ground to the venue or vice‑versa when necessary and keeping the respective line managers informed of any change.
  • Always follow a flexible approach to this role in a friendly way.

Your Skills and Experience

Qualifications & skills required:

  • Full Valid UK Driving licence (including D1 entitlement) is essential.
  • Candidates must hold a licence making them qualified to drive a 17‑seater minibus. (D1)
  • A maximum of 6 penalty points on the licence.
  • Experience of driving passengers in a minibus.
  • Good Communication and organisational skills.
  • Able to adhere to timetables and deadlines.
  • Experience of working with children and young people.
  • Willingness to attend role related trainings as and when required.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
  • Valid Passenger carrying vehicle (PCV) licence and a public service vehicle (PSV) licence (Desirable).
