Job title: Academy Designated Safeguarding Officer and Admin Assistant

Location: PFC Training Ground and other locations as required

Hours of work: 20 hours per week (4 weekdays, work pattern ranging from 9am to 7:30pm) Please note hours can be discussed, however the position requires you to work mornings and afternoons/evenings to meet the needs of the role.

Reports to: Academy Operations Manager and Secretary

Remuneration : £14,500 per annum (FTE £27,187)

Role summary

Portsmouth Football Club is looking for a Designated Safeguarding Officer and Admin Assistant to join their Academy.

The Safeguarding Officer will be the first point of contact for all safeguarding concerns within the Academy. They are required to work closely with key stakeholders, both internally and externally, maintaining confidentiality and keeping accurate records.

They will have experience of working in safeguarding and a sound understanding of statutory regulations to ensure safeguarding is embedded within the Academy.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • To respond in a timely and appropriate manner to safeguarding concerns to ensure players are kept safe from harm.
  • To encourage and endorse good practice by promoting and championing the Safeguarding Policy and Procedures.
  • To communicate Safeguarding concerns to the Senior Safeguarding Manager.
  • To create accurate, confidential and up to date safeguarding documentation on all cases of safeguarding and to provide reports where required.
  • To ensure the safeguarding policy is kept up to date in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education and regularly review any academy safeguarding policy and procedures.
  • To complete the safeguarding section of the annual PGAAC audit and Barnardo\’s Audit, liaising with the Academy Operations Manager and Secretary to ensure EPPP compliance.
  • Work with the Academy Operations Manager to ensure safeguarding within the APP is up to date.
  • Collate and produce statistical information as requested by the Academy Operations Manager and Secretary, to keep abreast of safeguarding trends and developmental needs of the Academy.
  • To attend regular safeguarding meetings and training to ensure knowledge is up to date.
  • To deliver safeguarding training to Players, Parents and Staff as required.
  • To support the Academy Operations Manager and Secretary with administrative tasks.
  • Support the fixture organisation of the U9-U14 age groups.
  • To attend training sessions as and when required.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Have proficient English skills
  • Up to date and good knowledge of safeguarding and Keeping Children Safe in Education
  • Good experience of managing safeguarding cases
  • Expertise in the use of basic IT packages that includes Microsoft word, Excel and Outlook.
  • The ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues across all departments and external organisations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and solution focused approach to professional relationships.
  • The ability to work flexibly and efficiently as part of a team and be able to multi-task.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to deal with sensitive situations with integrity.
  • FA Safeguarding Certificate
  • EFL Level 3 designated Safeguarding Officer Certificate (or willing to complete)
  • Satisfactory enhanced DBS (to be completed prior to employment)
