Your New Role

The Wellbeing Service supports individuals living in Portsmouth to modify behaviours, improve their health and life expectancy as well as reduce health inequalities. The service provides support to Portsmouth residents in a range of venues including community centres, GP practices and hospital settings. In addition, the service provides telephone/virtual support. Some of the work undertaken will be targeting Portsmouth\’s most deprived communities who unfairly suffer the greatest health inequalities.

Within this role you will provide a range of public health delivery services, linked to health improvement and reducing health inequalities such as those which address the wider determinants of health. This will include addressing risk factors such as smoking, alcohol, overweight and obesity, physical inactivity as well as mental health and wellbeing. You will support in a range of community settings throughout the City to identify their needs through initial assessment, as well as provide telephone/virtual support.

You may be required to supervise staff within small to medium-sized teams which may include lower banded staff. In addition, you will support colleagues in delivering/or deliver training in MECC, Connect 5, Smoking Cessation, Alcohol Brief Advice, Weight Management Brief Advice.

Who is the person summary:

With experience of working in a customer facing role with clients (1-1\’s or group), delivering/supporting behaviour change interventions. You will have the ability to facilitate support with physical activity, emotional wellbeing and the broader issues that may be impacting on an individuals current health through personalised support planning. With skills to lead community-based clinics, you will have good interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate effective team working with the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the wider team. You will have a knowledge and understanding of Portsmouth\’s demographic and of the wider determinants of health and how they can impact, as well as knowledge on how to engage people with support to address these. With good analytical skills, you will need good communication and organisational skills to enable you to priorities and organise your workload. A knowledge of recognised behaviour change and the ability to deliver health behaviour change, including guidance around smoke free homes would be desirable. With good data management and IT skills you will be a car driver or have the ability to travel across the City as you will be working across the PO1-PO6 area and will be required to transport resources to and from the venues. Experience of working with community and voluntary sector groups is desirable.
