Technical Transport Planner - Portsmouth

Portsmouth's City Council's Transport Planning Team are progressing a number of initiatives to deliver the Portsmouth Transport Strategy and the new Portsmouth Parking Strategy, which sets out policies such as developing Residents' Parking Zones, using kerbside space more flexibly, and developing more sustainable transport options so that more people can travel without having to use a vehicle. Alongside delivering innovative Solent Future Transport Zone projects such as our rental e-scooter trial and bike share scheme, it is an exciting time to join the team.

The Transport Planning Team is looking to recruit a Technical Transport Planner to support delivery of our residents' parking programme. As a Technical Transport Planner, you will be responsible for supporting the provision of advice on transport planning issues, contributing to the development of transport policy and strategy, delivering solutions to varied and complex parking issues, and engaging and consulting with councillors, community groups, and residents.

You will be a proactive and organised individual with a relevant degree in transport planning, geography or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. You will have strong analytical skills, be confident interpreting data, and understand the social and environmental impacts of transport. You will be an effective communicator with excellent report-writing skills and the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Able to manage competing priorities and work independently, you will bring strong project coordination skills, a problem-solving mindset, and a passion for helping shape sustainable transport improvements across Portsmouth.

We offer hybrid working with the expectation to attend the office a minimum of 2 days a week (pro rata for part-time), this remains flexible, depending on the role and subject to business needs. We are not able to offer sponsorship for this position.
