The predicted salary is between 26473 - 28239 £ per year.
Fixed term contract for up to 3 years due to length of apprenticeship.
Salary: Band 5, £26,473 - £28,239 p.a. (with progression up to Band 7).
Level 6 integrated degree apprenticeship with the University of West England. 37 hours per week including release for study. Office attendance is required, this remains flexible, subject to business needs.
For this role you don’t need public health experience. We’re looking for someone who’s keen to learn, cares about Portsmouth, and wants a job where they can help people. This is a paid, supported route into public health for people who want to make a real difference for Portsmouth.
The Public Health Apprentice role is offered over 3 years and with support, will enable you to work towards a university degree and professional registration as a Public Health Practitioner. It will give you a thorough understanding of public health and how local government works.
You will be given the opportunity to build your skills and grow your confidence, working with different teams across public health and organisations (for example the council, schools, the NHS and community groups). You may also be involved in project work and helping with projects like healthy weight, stopping smoking, sexual health, mental health or preventing infections whilst being supported by experienced public health staff.
By the end of the apprenticeship you will be able to measure and report on local health and wellbeing using data and feedback, find and use good evidence including basic research to support decisions, work with policies and plans, understand the decision‑making process in local government and help plan and manage projects and programmes. Sometimes you may need to be flexible with your time to meet deadlines.

Who is the person summary:
With good numerical and literacy skills (maths and English level 2 functional skills) and A or T levels or equivalent, you will have good written and verbal communication skills, be able to use your initiative and be able to juggle different tasks whilst working with a variety of people. As well as being IT literate we are looking for someone who is flexible, adaptable, keen to learn and willing to undertake the apprenticeship qualification as well as any other job specific training. You will need to demonstrate that you have the Right to Work in the UK. No post will be offered without it.
