We are looking for a Health and Safety Administrator Apprentice to join our Health and Safety Team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional environment while completing a Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship. This apprenticeship provides a strong foundation for a future career in administration, health and safety, compliance, risk management or local government. Successful completion may support progression to further qualifications and future career-development opportunities.

About the Health & Safety team:

The Health and Safety Team supports a wide range of Council services. The team helps services protect the health, safety and wellbeing of employees, councillors, visitors, contractors and members of the public who may be affected by the Council's activities.

The Role:

As a Health & Safety Administrator Apprentice, you will provide administrative support to the Health & Safety Team, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the service. Working under the guidance of experienced colleagues, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to support health and safety activities while completing a Level 2 apprenticeship. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional office environment while contributing to the Council's commitment to providing safe and healthy workplaces.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • We are looking for someone who is keen to learn and can demonstrate strong organisational skills, reliability and trustworthiness, with a good eye for detail and the ability to work accurately.
  • You will have an interest in developing your administrative and health and safety knowledge within local government and be able to manage your time effectively, completing tasks within agreed deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively by email, telephone, letter, video call, online platforms and face-to-face.
  • You will have good IT skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • You will also possess strong written and record-keeping skills, including taking accurate minutes and communicating effectively by email.
  • A good understanding of confidentiality and data protection is essential.
  • You should have GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above, or an equivalent qualification. If required, you must be willing to work towards these qualifications as part of the apprenticeship.

Applicants must also meet the relevant apprenticeship funding eligibility requirements. This role is offered as a publicly funded Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship. In line with Government apprenticeship funding rules, this apprenticeship is currently only available for individuals aged 16-24 at the start of the apprenticeship.
