Department: The Property & Investment team of Portsmouth City Council is an award‑winning team that won the South Coast Property Awards – Commercial Landlord of the Year 2024. The team manages and maintains a multi‑million pound property portfolio across the UK, with assets that include office campuses, industrial sites, retail sites, a port and leisure facilities. The total asset value is well over £1 billion.
Overview: Our purpose is to manage these assets cost‑effectively and to uphold quality relationships with our tenants. All our work is geared towards achieving this purpose.
Role Summary: Working in a growing team of graduates and experienced property professionals, you will manage and assist others with the management of our properties. This includes:
- Valuation of all types of property
- Revenue and capital income generation
- Commercial landlord and tenant work – rent reviews, lease renewals, etc.
- Management of your own portfolio of properties
You will spend around a third of your time out of the office, dealing face‑to‑face with our customers, and we will expect you to be reasonably flexible with your working hours. Experienced chartered surveyors will support you working towards your APC, offering time to develop your portfolio and gain in‑the‑role experience. This role provides ample opportunity to widen and deepen your surveying knowledge and help you decide where you might specialise later in your career.
Qualifications & Person Summary: This role requires the post holder to have or be nearing completion of a degree or an acceptable qualification that qualifies for the RICS APC in commercial or valuation disciplines, and to possess reasonable technical knowledge gained during study. A practical, common‑sense approach to property matters is essential. Demonstrated desire to learn on the job and undertake the APC qualification for full membership of RICS. Enthusiasm to take on different projects, generate income and challenge existing work practices. Valid manual driving licence required for frequent travel around the area (pool vehicles available). Right to work in the UK – no post will be offered without it.
Benefits & Working Arrangements: We offer hybrid working with the expectation to attend the office at least 2 days a week (pro rata for part‑time). The role is flexible, depending on business needs. Sponsorship will not be offered for this position.
