Your New Role

Internal audit fulfils a statutory requirement to advise, alert and assure the Council on the effectiveness of its systems of internal control. The internal audit team works in partnership with other local Councils and clients in the Solent area, and this role may involve working with these partners.

Key duties include:

  • Planning and executing strategic audits of complex areas.
  • Guiding and mentoring junior audit staff.
  • Identifying scope, assessing risks, planning work, carrying out testing and evaluating controls.
  • Preparing reports on findings and providing recommendations.
  • Communicating with management, stakeholders and external auditors.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified member of IIA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Post‑qualification experience in an auditing environment.
  • Part‑qualified candidates with a strong desire to complete and extensive auditing experience considered.
  • Financial background with a working understanding of risk and controls in a public sector environment at a senior level.
  • Excellent communication, self‑management and prioritisation skills.
  • Ability to challenge and persuade positively while understanding customer needs.

Additional Information:

  • Hybrid working with expectation to attend office minimum 2 days a week, flexible as per role.
  • Non‑sponsored position.
