About the Opportunity

We're partnering with an innovative technology company building high-performance, distributed applications used at scale. They're looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus to join their engineering team on a long-term contract. This role is approximately 80% backend / 20% frontend, making it ideal for engineers who enjoy designing scalable systems, building resilient APIs, and working with event-driven architectures, while remaining comfortable contributing to the frontend when needed.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design and build scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
  • Develop and maintain applications across the MERN stack
  • Architect and implement event-driven systems and asynchronous workflows
  • Design APIs and microservices that can support high traffic and large-scale workloads
  • Optimise application performance, reliability, and scalability
  • Work closely with product, engineering, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and engineering best practices
  • Participate in code reviews and mentor other engineers where appropriate

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Strong commercial experience with the MERN stack
  • Expert-level Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript development
  • Experience building highly scalable, distributed systems
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging patterns
  • Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
  • Solid understanding of MongoDB and data modelling
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
  • Familiarity with Docker and modern CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong knowledge of software architecture and system design
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working in remote teams

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, EventBridge, or similar messaging technologies
  • Microservices architecture experience
  • Kubernetes experience
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Experience working within Agile engineering teams
