About the Opportunity
We're partnering with an innovative technology company building high-performance, distributed applications used at scale. They're looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer with a strong backend focus to join their engineering team on a long-term contract. This role is approximately 80% backend / 20% frontend, making it ideal for engineers who enjoy designing scalable systems, building resilient APIs, and working with event-driven architectures, while remaining comfortable contributing to the frontend when needed.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design and build scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript
- Develop and maintain applications across the MERN stack
- Architect and implement event-driven systems and asynchronous workflows
- Design APIs and microservices that can support high traffic and large-scale workloads
- Optimise application performance, reliability, and scalability
- Work closely with product, engineering, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software
- Contribute to architectural decisions and engineering best practices
- Participate in code reviews and mentor other engineers where appropriate
What We're Looking For
Essential- Strong commercial experience with the MERN stack
- Expert-level Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript development
- Experience building highly scalable, distributed systems
- Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging patterns
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
- Solid understanding of MongoDB and data modelling
- Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Familiarity with Docker and modern CI/CD pipelines
- Strong knowledge of software architecture and system design
- Excellent communication skills and experience working in remote teams
- Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, EventBridge, or similar messaging technologies
- Microservices architecture experience
- Kubernetes experience
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)
- Experience working within Agile engineering teams
