Portobello Legal Media (PLM) is an independent boutique publishing house, specialising in the provision of news, information, and analysis for the international legal market. Our first imprint, International Employment Lawyer (IEL), is dedicated to delivering timely reporting, data, and analysis of the latest trends and developments in the management of multinationals’ workforces. Our second imprint, Global Mobility Lawyer (GML), delivers comprehensive news and analysis regarding the global mobility issues faced by multinational businesses.

As a Senior Researcher/Deputy Research Editor, you will work alongside the Head of Research and play a key role in shaping/expanding research across both publications, including the annual IEL and GML Elite guides to the world’s leading labour/employment and global mobility practices, as well as our portfolio of thought-leadership surveys. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to assist with the development of innovative information tools aimed at our expert readership, and to travel internationally to IEL and GML events (which we run in the US, Latam, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia).

Role and main responsibilities:

  • Undertake qualitative research projects into international employment and global mobility markets for our annual Elite guides – both conducting interviews with relevant experts in the field, and writing up in-depth research for annual publication
  • Organise and launch annual industry surveys of leading individuals
  • Provide market data to the editorial team on a regular basis to help with story generation
  • Attend company and industry events as an ambassador of both IEL and GML publications
  • Ensure quality of output across all research, including with some editing responsibilities

Requirements and competencies:

  • The ideal candidate will have: 2-3 years’ experience working in a legal research environment (minimum)
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Editing, proofing experience
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness and ability to learn about complex subjects quickly
  • Strong communication, organisational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work in a high-trust environment
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team
